Have you ever spotted a designer mirrored tray in a boutique and wondered how to achieve that high-end look without the luxury price tag? Most people see old picture frames as simple wall decor, but with a bit of stacking and shimmer, they can become a gallery-worthy centerpiece for your perfumes or guests.

💡 Sandy’s Favorite Crafting Tips & Hacks

  • The Ghosting Prevention Hack: If your picture frames are a dark color like brown or black, always apply a quick coat of white paint or primer first. This ensures the original dark color doesn’t “ghost” through the rhinestone wrap, keeping your finish bright and professional.

  • The “Flat-Fit” Ornament Hack: To turn Christmas ornaments into sturdy furniture feet, remove the hanging caps and snip off the small plastic tip. This allows the balls to lay perfectly flat against the frames for a more secure bond.

  • Modular Height: You can easily customize the profile of this tray to fit your space. While I used four frames for a tall, statement look, you can achieve a beautiful lower-profile tray using only three frames.

  • The Glue String Eraser: Since this project features a lot of reflective chrome and rhinestone textures, glue strings will be very visible. Once the glue has cooled, use a dry paintbrush to twirl those pesky strings away instantly.

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Frames: Disassemble all four 11×14 picture frames. Set aside the glass and backings, keeping only one set of glass and one cardboard backing for the final tray base.

  2. Prime the Surface: Paint the exterior of all four frames white or use a primer. This doesn’t need to be a perfect job; you just need enough coverage to mask the original dark frame color.

  3. Create the Double-Stack: Once dry, apply hot glue along the top edge of one frame and place a second frame directly on top.

  4. Add the Bling: Measure and cut the diamond rhinestone wrap to cover all four exterior sides of your stacked frames. Repeat this wrapping process for the third individual frame.

  5. Build the Tray Base: Take the cardboard backing from the fourth frame and cover the front side with chunky glitter fabric using a generous amount of white glue. Once dry, place the glass and the glittered backing back into the fourth frame and wrap the exterior with rhinestone wrap.

  6. Install the Chrome Feet: Prepare your ornament balls by removing the caps and snipping the tips. Use hot glue to place four ornaments on the top corners of your double-stacked frame.

  7. Reinforce the Base Support: Turn the double-stacked frame upside down and glue another four ornaments to the corners. For extra stability, space out two more ornaments along the length of each side.

  8. Final Assembly: Stack the components to complete the tray. Place the frame with the glass and glitter backing at the bottom, position the double-stacked frame in the middle, and place the remaining empty wrapped frame on top.
