I’ve always felt that the right lighting can completely change the vibe of a hallway—especially when it uses reflections to bounce light across the room for a sophisticated, designer feel. You don’t need a massive budget to dress up your home with elegance when you can repurpose everyday items like auto funnels and wooden planks into one-of-a-kind showpieces. Today, I’m showing you how to create a multi-functional wall sconce that adapts to your mood, whether you want the soft glow of a candle or the fresh look of a regal flower vase.

💡 Sandy’s Favorite Crafting Tips & Hacks
- The Hardware Transplant: You don’t need to buy expensive hanging kits for your wall projects. Simply cut a hook from the back of an old picture frame and secure it to the top-center of your wooden panel using a mix of Fix-all and hot glue.
- The Mirror-Glow Reflection: When you position your mirrors, make sure they are centered behind your light source. This allows the light from an LED candle or puck light to bounce off the glass, beautifully “lighting things up” across the wall.
- Safety First with Heat Tools: If you are using a wood-burning tool to create a seat for your funnel, remember that it gets extremely hot. Always unplug it immediately when not in use to keep your crafting space safe.
- Texture with Glitter: To add extra dimension to flat wood, mix silver glitter directly into your acrylic paint. It hides the wood grain and gives the piece a professional, textured metallic finish.
- Hybrid Bonding Strategy: For structural pieces like the L-bracket that holds your candle, use Fix-all for a long-term permanent hold and add a bit of hot glue for an immediate “tack” while the stronger adhesive sets.
Instructions
Project 1: The 3-in-1 Mirrored Wall Sconce
- Prepare the Panel: Attach a picture frame hook to the back of your wooden plank. On the front, secure your round mirrors in a vertical line using Fix-all and hot glue.
- Paint and Frame: Paint the exposed wood with a mixture of silver paint and glitter. Frame the mirrors with silver beaded necklace and wrap the entire plank edge with flexible silver ribbon.
- Construct the Candle Seat: Wrap a small square canvas in rhinestone ribbon. Burn a hole into a square wood piece that is just large enough to fit your funnel stem, then paint the wood silver.
- Assemble the Base: Attach a metal L-bracket to the bottom center of the plank. Secure the canvas upside down on the bracket and insert your painted wood piece inside.
- Choose Your Look:
- Look 1: Place a battery-operated LED candle directly on the wood seat.
- Look 2: Insert the funnel into the hole to hold a puck light.
- Look 3: Use the funnel as a vase for faux flowers.
Project 2: The Tall Regal Flower Vase
- Build the Foundation: Glue a silver-painted wreath form vertically onto a silver wooden panel.
- Add the Vessel: Decorate your funnel by wrapping it in silver beaded necklace and adding silver car trim to the rim.
- Final Assembly: Insert the funnel stem into the top of the wreath form. Double-check that it is sturdy and add a few beads for extra glam before inserting your favorite tall flowers.
