Have you ever walked through a high-end furniture store (think Z Gallerie or Crate and Barrel) and fallen in love with a piece of sculptural lighting, only to be crushed by a double-digit price tag for something that looks so simple? I’ve always believed that luxury home decor is more about creative execution than it is about having a massive budget, and today I’m proving it by duping two beautiful Crate & Barrel pieces for just a few dollars each. These projects are fast, elegant, and provide that “light and airy” designer presence without the boutique expense.

💡 Sandy’s Favorite Crafting Tips & Hacks

  • The Patience Bond: When you are adhering a metal napkin ring to a foam surface, don’t rush the process. Hold the ring firmly in place for at least a full minute to ensure the hot glue has completely cooled and created a permanent, wiggle-free bond.

  • Glass-on-Glass Security: For the hurricane candle holder, I highly recommend using a chemical adhesive like Fix-All rather than just hot glue. Glass is a slick surface, and a stronger adhesive ensures your pieces won’t slide or separate when moved.

  • Even Metallic Finish: When painting your foam floral ring, apply light, even coats of silver metallic paint. This prevents the paint from pooling in the porous texture of the foam and gives the final piece a smooth, expensive-looking metallic sheen.

  • The Glue String Eraser: As with all my glam projects, once your pieces are set, take a dry paintbrush and twirl away any “spiderweb” glue strings [History]. This is especially important for glass projects where every detail is visible.

Instructions

Project 1: The Sculpture Loop Taper Holder (Lauren Dupe)

  1. Prep the Base: Spray paint your foam floral ring and the wooden panel with silver metallic paint and let them dry completely.

  2. Mount the Candle Seat: Apply hot glue to the bottom of your silver napkin ring and adhere it vertically to the top-middle of the foam ring. Hold it for about a minute until it is secure.

  3. Final Assembly: Center the foam ring on the wooden panel and secure it with a generous amount of hot glue to create a stable, sculptural base.

Project 2: The Taylor Hurricane Candle Holder Dupe

  1. Apply the Adhesive: Turn your small shallow glass bowl upside down and apply a ring of Fix-All glue to the bottom.

  2. Join the Vessels: Carefully center the bottom of the large glass vase onto the glued base of the small bowl. Press down firmly and allow it to cure until the bond is permanent.
