I finally stopped paying for expensive designer trays when I discovered I could make stunning, high-end looking vanity trays for just a few dollars! I believe luxury home styling is more about creativity and imagination and less about having a massive budget. Today, I’m going to show you how to re-purpose budget-friendly silver charger plates and upscale them into showroom-ready mirrored trays that serve as perfect centerpieces for your formal dining room or vanity.

💡 Sandy’s Crafting Tips & Hacks

  • The Permanent Bonding Duo: For structural serving pieces, always use my “adhesive duo“—a combination of Fix-All or E6000 for a long-term professional bond and hot glue for an immediate hold while the stronger adhesive cures.

  • Hidden Ornament Caps: To achieve a professional-grade finish, position your ornament balls so the caps face inward toward the centre of the tray where they will be completely hidden from view.

  • The Glue String Removal Hack: Keep your reflective chrome and glass surfaces sparkling! Once the glue has cooled, take a dry paintbrush and simply twirl those pesky hot glue “spiderwebs” away instantly.

  • Leveling Legs: When adding height to your tray, ensure your three napkin ring legs are spaced equidistantly in a triangular pattern to provide maximum stability and prevent wobbling.

Instructions

Tray Design #1: The Silver Bangle Mirror Tray

  1. Bond the Foundation: Apply a generous amount of Fix-All (supplemented with hot glue) to one side of a 12-inch round wood panel and adhere a 12-inch round mirror to the center.

  2. Construct the Legs: Turn the panel over and adhere three clear crystal doorknobs to the bottom in an equidistant triangular pattern to give the tray stable height.

  3. Assemble the Bangle Frame: Apply small dollops of hot glue to silver bangles and stand them upright around the outer edge of the mirror.

  4. Conceal the Seams: Wrap silver car trim and a string of silver beaded necklace around the base of the bangles to hide the joint between the mirror and the wood panel.

  5. Bling the Interior: Use hot glue to secure a clear diamond-shaped acrylic gem inside the bottom center of each standing bangle for a sophisticated gallery-worthy finish.

Tray Design #2: The Silver Ornament Mirror Tray

  1. Join the Bases: Bond two large silver charger plates together back-to-back using your permanent adhesive duo so that only the bottoms are exposed.

  2. Camouflage the Joint: Adhere a string of silver beaded necklace around the entire outer perimeter of the joined plates to conceal the visible seam.

  3. Secure the Feet: Glue three silver napkin rings in a triangular pattern to the bottom of the lower plate to provide a sturdy, elevated base.

  4. Mirror the Top: Center and adhere a 12-inch round frameless mirror to the front face of the top charger plate using Fix-All.

  5. Build the Decorative Border: Apply hot glue to medium-sized silver ornament balls and adhere them around the perimeter to fill the gap between the mirror edge and the plate rim.

  6. Refine the Edges: Frame the inner edge of the mirror with a final string of silver beaded necklace using clear tacky glue to create a seamless showroom-ready look
