I’ve always been captivated by the high-end aesthetic of brands like Z Gallerie, but the $100 price tag for their signature ice buckets is a bit much for my budget! I knew I could capture that same silver-chrome elegance for a fraction of the cost by getting a little creative with simple plastic finds from the Dollar Tree and Dollarama. It’s all about finding that perfect balance of being resourceful—like using floral wire to anchor gorgeous book-ring handles or repurposing a simple square bowl as a pedestal to give the whole piece a sophisticated, designer height.

  • Silver book rings.

  • Clear square crystal gem stickers (or flat-back gems).

  • Small clear round gem stickers.

💡Sandy’s Crafting Tips & Hacks

  • The Fractional Dupe Strategy: You can replicate $100 boutique designs using lightweight plastic alternatives that take on a high-end metal appearance once embellished with chrome finishes and gems.

  • The Wire Anchor Technique: Loop floral wire through book rings and twist them onto the plastic bucket handles to create a secure, functional hanging handle that won’t slip off.

  • The Hidden Mechanic Reinforcement: Glue rhinestone ribbon directly over your wire anchors to simultaneously hide the structural elements and add an extra layer of security for the handles.

  • The Diamond Pattern Shortcut: Place your square gems directly onto the pre-existing diamond texture of the plastic bucket to ensure perfectly symmetrical spacing without any measuring.

  • The Instant Pedestal Elevation: Turning a small square bowl upside down and gluing it to the base provides an immediate architectural lift, making a simple bucket look like a formal centerpiece.

Instructions

  1. Loop silver floral wire into the book rings and twist the ends together until the ring is held firmly.

  2. Align the rings with the existing ice bucket handles and glue the wire ends down to create a stable anchor.

  3. Adhere a small section of rhinestone ribbon to the top of each handle to conceal the wiring and provide additional security.

  4. Press square gem stickers into each section of the diamond pattern located on the lower half of the bucket.

  5. Apply rows of the smallest clear round gems on a diagonal, parallel to each other, to amp up the sparkle across the bucket’s surface.

  6. Glue a border of rhinestone ribbon around the top rim of both the ice bucket and the square bowl for a finished look.

  7. Embellish the square bowl by placing round gem stickers down the length of each vertical corner.

  8. Invert the square bowl and attach it to the bottom center of the ice bucket using a generous amount of hot glue to serve as a pedestal.
