I was looking at a collection of simple Dollar Tree mirrors and realised that with the right mix of rhinestones, pearls, and gems, they could become a stunning statement piece for any home. It is incredible how you can take basic plastic frames and turn them into something spectacular that catches the light and adds a sophisticated, designer-style glow to your walls. Today, I’m showing you how I upscaled five different mirror designs using everything from self-adhesive ribbons to loose crystals, creating a cohesive gallery wall where no one would guess the mirrors started at the dollar store.

💡 Sandy’s Favorite Crafting Tips & Hacks

  • The Strip-Cutting Secret: When working with flexible rhinestone ribbons on circular or curved frames, cut the ribbon into small strips rather than trying to apply one long piece. This allows you to “mould” the ribbon to the shape of the mirror for a professional, seamless finish.

  • The Glue String Eraser: Hot glue “spiderwebs” are inevitable when working with tiny crystals. Once your glue has cooled, take a dry paintbrush and gently brush the surface; the strings will gather onto the bristles and disappear instantly.

  • The Tacky Glue Safety Tip: For very narrow trims where hot glue might burn your fingers, switch to clear tacky glue. It gives you more control and is safer to handle, though you must allow it time to cure before hanging your mirror.

  • The High-Contrast Strategy: If you have a dark or black mirror frame, use white pearls or clear acrylic gems to create a “Diamonds and Pearls” look. The contrast makes the embellishments pop and gives the piece an expensive, boutique feel.

Instructions

  1. Embellish the First Mirror (Silver Glam): Use self-adhesive silver rhinestone ribbon. Cut the ribbon into small strips to fit the frame, moulding it to the curves of the circular mirror to create a fully blinged-out silver finish.

  2. Texture the Second Mirror (Black & Silver): Apply black and silver rhinestone ribbon using hot glue. Because this ribbon is flexible, you can mould it around the rounded curves of the frame to pull the shimmering look together.

  3. Refine the Third Mirror (Crystal Chain): Adhere a narrow clear crystal rhinestone trim to the frame using hot glue or tacky glue. Finish the circular portion of the mirror by individually placing tiny loose flatback clear round gems with tacky glue.

  4. Design the Fourth Mirror (Diamonds & Pearls): Create a high-contrast look by applying a string of flatback white pearls to a black mirror frame. Add rows of clear acrylic gem stickers and finish with clear diamond-shaped acrylic gems for a sophisticated “Diamonds and Pearls” aesthetic.

  5. Finish the Gallery Wall: Complete the set by applying clear acrylic gem stickers to the fifth mirror. Arrange all five glammed-up mirrors on your wall in a gallery style; when the light hits the various rhinestones and gems, the entire wall will sparkle brilliantly.
